Well the time has come to go home to Iceland, for a visit. We have not been to Iceland in 2 years so everyone in the Snorrason family is very excited. We´re going to be there for 4 weeks, not a lot of time to catch up with friends and family, but we´ll try and visit as many as we can. I am taking the camera with me of course and I look forward to photograph Iceland, it´s been a while!
Keep a look out for some Icelandic scenes in the next weeks.
III went on a photography trip to Nootka Island on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. We went fishing with Temple, and took some shots for his website.
The highlight for me was staying on Nootka Island, watching the sunset and nibbling on a fire roasted salmon 3 hours old. Nootka is on the list, of places I will return to, for further exploration.
Well not really but you can view it here, in the comfort of your own home or workplace.
To really enjoy it you can download the high res version by clicking this link
Got some good news the other day, next issue of Photosho has my photo on the cover. You can buy the magazine here.
I am taking part in an online contest and one of the prizes is a popularity vote. You can follow this link Snorri_Portfolio and vote for me, no need to sign in or anything, just click the five star symbol and you´re good to go! It even has a photo of me looking all slick and handsome.
Went up island last week with Greg to shoot some new stuff. Here are a couple of photos from that trip. We stayed with Greg´s friends, Temple and Rebekka. Had a great time, saw lot of wild-life and we got to go out in Temple´s boat. Nice trip.
Somewhere above Port Renfrew
I also hiked from Parkinson Creek to Botanical Beach with my brother on the week end. This is a part of the Juan de Fuca Marine trail. We saw some bears along the way, the only one that stood still for a while was a young male that was sitting on a stump besides the trail. As luck would have it I had my fisheye on the camera, still took a photo. Juan de Fuca Marine Trail
There is a bear there somewhere!
As some may have noticed I am changing the look of the blog, going to try white for a while if this does not resonate with anyone, please tell, suggest, reach out….
Life is busy these days, I have moved to a new house and things are slowly returning to normal. III Inc is doing good, some new exciting things happening, we have been working for BC Ferries, photographing on the new vessels. We have also been doing new work for FQ Japan, camping and outdoor activities, something right up our alley so to speak. We are trying to put together a press kit/portfolio to send out to possible clients, its taking more time than anticipated, you really want to do things like that in the best possible way. Upcoming is also a Trip/seminar to Nitinat Lake and Carmanah Valley, this is a landscape, wildlife seminar. I will post details on that when it is ready, if interested email me for more info.
Vancouver Island holds many treasures; some are among the most popular outdoor places in Canada, like the West Coast Trail. Others are just as magnificent but hidden because of difficult access. The result is often a pristine place, where everything is undisturbed, peaceful but strangely mysterious, Tahsish-Kwois is one of those places, like a lost Valley in the deepest inlet of Kyoqout Sound.
It is no mean feat to get to Tahsish-Kwois, first there are logging roads with their potholes and winding hairpins, 80km from Woss to the Artlish River. The only reasonable way into the park is by water and the easiest access to the water is by an abindoned logging camp near the Artlish river mouth.
Photographing children can be demanding, they have a short attention span and bore easily. On a photo shoot the environment is extremely boring to young children, understandably. Having to sit still, the flashes and the endless repeats is a bit much to handle when you are around 4 years old. So the photographer has to try to be funny and exciting at the same time as creative and technical. So sometimes I have said things that make me sound a bit wacky, the title of this post is probably rather strange but it is the one phrase that has always brought a smile to a young models face. I know this as I have 2 kids and at a certain age everything that has something to do with bodily functions is unbelievably funny and fun to say. So I get to be a kid again to try to amuse the kids in front of the camera. As I have a strong dislike to hand puppets(some childhood trauma) I have to use some other means to entertain and being immature and strange seems to work.
Our company website has been updated, we have put in details on some of our clients, movie from a recent photo-shoot for FQ JAPAN.
We´re on a roll at International Independent Imaging Inc. Got plenty of work and we are very excited about this new venture. The assignments we have got to date have been exactly what we wanted, advertising and magazine work. This is our main focus although we venture into other areas as well. Check it out
As most nerds and geeks I have a need to buy a computer at least once every 2 years.
I bought my desktop computer in January 2007 and I am quite satisfied with it still. My Powerbook on the other hand was bought in January 2005 and I am on the verge of a tech breakdown. It is 3 years old and that´s an old computer. The problem is though that it just will not break down, I have had Zero issues with it. The battery still goes for 3 hours when doing light work and the screen is flawless, nothing is loose - no problemos. That is the problem though, I want a new Powerbook, so in my head I am reasoning with my inner practical guy. He´s not very strong, my whimsical inner guy is much stronger and in the end he always wins, just takes time.
Now that is just the first hurdle in a very long race to the finish line, the biggest hurdle is my wife. She does not need tech, she would be happy with anything that runs a word processor and goes on the Internet without a fuzz. She is so undemanding that she uses a 4 years old PC. Yes it is that bad. So to say the least she does not understand my cravings for beautiful, shiny, slim things that can leave other similar things in the dust in benchmark testing. I always tell her that she should consider herself lucky, I have no need for a 50 inch plasma TV, I don´t need a Harley Davidson or a quadruple 16 piece surround system. That reasoning falls on deaf ears. But persistence is the key, young master.
